Customers buying items that have been discontinued

Solution

This has most likely happened due to "caching".

Web browsers cache; that is, temporarily save, certain content on website pages so that they appear to load up more quickly. For example, the header area tends to contain a logo and menu that is exactly the same on every page; instead of downloading these items every time a site visitor looks at a different page the web browser displays the cached part of the file thereby only downloading and showing the content that differs.

The effect can be that a visitor to your site can go to a page they've visted before after finding your site using a search engine and they see the item as it was last time they visited - even though you may have altered or removed the item; especially if they've saved the page as a favourite/bookmark.

To counteract this try adding the following code into the Custom Head field in your Preferences and Settings:

<meta http-equiv="expires" content="0" />
<meta http-equiv="pragma" content="no-cache" />
<meta http-equiv="cache-control" content="no-cache" />
<meta http-equiv="pragma-directive" content="no-cache" />
<meta http-equiv="cache-directive" content="no-cache" />
