Footfall is the term used in retail marketing to describe the number of people who enter a high street shop, store or catering establishment.

It's a truism that "selling is a numbers game" so increasing footfall in a high street shop tends to lead to higher sales volumes.

This is something we can learn from in the online world; in ecommerce "footfall" equates to site traffic: numbers of unique visitors to a website.

The more traffic you have the more sales you're likely to make.
